CM New fob won't program

We are trying to program a new fob for our 2006 Z06. We have the current fob in our pocket, new fob in hand.

Placed key in keyslot & opened hatch.
Turned key 5 times within 5 seconds.

No message appeared on DIC.

Tried this several times with no luck. Both car doors were open. Old fob works fine. What are we doing wrong?

HI there,
There has been occasions where a couple of things may occur.
First, the lock cylinder switch is not being seen when you turn the key or the control module is NOT seeing the signal.
A quick way to check, is to lock the car using the fob that works.
Install the key in the lock cylinder and release the hatch. If the switch is NOT working, the alarm will go off.
If the alarm goes off, then its most likely just the programming of the module and a dealership will have to program the fob using a Tech 2.

Paul, the alarm did not go off, so what happens if the control module is NOT seeing the signal? Does the dealer have to repair this, or can they just program the new fob?

HI Janet,
Yes, the dealership will have to program the fob with the Tech 2.

Thanks Paul, The dealer programmed the fob while I waited. Of course had to peruse the showroom and admire a new C6 Z51 while they did it

Very interesting...I foolishly locked my FOB in the trunk when I was 750 miles from home. Since I carry the trunk key in a different pocket, I used it. The trunk opened but the alarm did go off. I assumed that it was normal for the alarm to sound since the car wasn't opened normally otherwise anyone could punch the lock and open the car with no alarm. Am I misunderstanding its intended operation?
