I am looking to purchase a 74-79 Corvette, I am a newbie I just always wanted a Stingray or 70's Corvette. Can anyone help me as to what I should ask and look for when going to view prospective vehicles?

Aside from the obvious used car stuff, look for (condition, fluid colors, body work, good paint, etc.), fiberglass stress cracks, electrical gremlins Vettes seem to attract, vacuum lines (headlights especially, on C3s) are a few unique items.

Smart money says have the car inspected by a knowledgeable Vette tech. Money well spent.

Keep in mind, mechanical work on a carbed 350 Chevy is much cheaper than body work. I'd prefer to buy a $2K motor than a $4k paint job.

For my money, it's always better to spend a little more on an A1 car owned by an anal-retentive neat freak than to think you can save a buck doing the work piecemeal. Unless you own a body shop, that's never the case. C3s seem to be appreciating, so buying a good example now will pay off later.

Look at the ads: "invested $20,000 sacrifice $15,000" is common.

Having been the $20k guy, I look forward to being the $15k guy.

Having owned all three, I think ChuckG is spot on! Body work is VERY expensive and time consuming.

depending on what part of the country your from, check the frame directly in FRONT of the rear wheels. if the frame is bad, that is usually the first place it will go and can easily be seen without crawling under the car.
