CM Zf 6 extention housing bushing

My friend has some problems with his 1991 ZR-1

It appears that the bushing in the extension housing seized on to the drive shaft and then spun inside the extension housing. This ruined the rear seal.

The drive shaft came out with the help of a small pry bar.

Can this busing be replaced? As it spun inside the case is there oversized bushings available?

If not can just the extension housing be replaced? Where can one be purchased and what is a fair price?

If we are into a complete tranny swap for this, is there any difference between a ZR-1 and a regular C4 ZF-6? We found a reasonable priced ZF-6 on eBay but the poster claims it will not fit a ZR-1.

I won't be able to respond for a week but please post. My friend will be monitoring the post.

TIA

Val

HI there,
After alot of research, GM has discontinued the housing that the bushing is installed into.
Now, the bushing isnt available separately either.
So, the only recourse we see is to go to ZF directly or contact Bill Boudreau at www.ZFDoc.com
He may be able to assist further, as he specializes in these transmissions.

Success!!
My budy Eric found out that a turbo 400 bushing is the same size only wider. He cut down the bushing, cleaned up the driveshaft end and used it to press in the new bushing. He instaled an new seal and replaced all the fluid. He has been on a 200 mile round trip with no issues.
