CM New Cam!

So, the Comp Cams 12-262-4 is in, along with a new double roller timing chain, distributor gear, pan gasket, and of course new lifters, and roller-tip rockers.

I'm having a few "fine-tuning" issues, but they're expected. It's a little lumpy, but setting the idle a bit higher masks that a tad. I'm a bit of a power guy, so it's acceptable to me. Others may prefer the cam one step down.

The power in this cam is AWESOME! I haven't gotten into it yet (waiting for 800 miles and fresh oil), but in normal driving, it really pulls! Mileage actually improved a lot (but I had two worn lobes on the old cam).

Listed all my mods to Comp Cams (above, plus HyperTech ThermoMaster chip, 2.02/1.94 heads, K&N, cat-back, under drive pulleys, adjustable fuel pressure regulator (@48lbs) and they expect I'm at about 375 HP and 413 ft lbs.

Just thought I'd relate my experiences. Maybe someone else wants to freshen up their early C4?

Sounds good chuck! Good job!

If you are ever in Troy, go to Advanced Chassis Dyno and get it dyno'ed if you cannot find one near you! That is where I went...

Now go play with your tools!

I'll certainly look into that! Any idea what a fair price for such service would be? I've never looked into it before.

Seems much is in Troy. Went to the Vette show at the GM Tech Center today and there seems to be many vendors/shops on that side of town.

For three dyno pulls I paid $75 and that is that shops going rate! If you want wide band O2 connected it was another $25 or $30 more and then of course a tune would still be more. I opted for just the pulls since my car is not heavily modded. I can US mail you a flyer if you want, I have extras.

A lot better price then the $500 I was quoted from another place with a tune!

Going to the Dream Cruise this year?

Thanks! I recall many years ago when I had my Shelby I'd been told it was about $500 and I figured that money could buy many more important things.

I'm planning on the Dream Cruise. I generally start at 696 and a few days later, hit 12 Mile Rd....

Besides the failure to actually "cruise", I'm not looking forward to the rednecks in wife beaters to yell "light 'em up!".

Funny, I've never heard that from anyone with a nice car. Must be code for "I know nothing about cars and I'm a loser."

LOL!!! Yeah I hear ya on the Cruise! I went a couple times on the actual day of the Cruise, never again. Now I go during the week when you can actually Cruise! Than the cops clear the streets at around 9:00 and I go home. I have more fun doing that! Engine temps still go to 230 degrees at night but it is still very hot. Sometimes I do go through Pontiac on Saturday since it is closer to home and easy to get onto Widetrack.

And you are so right about the "light em up" people! I find Pontiac is more that crowd, a different crowd too! I will never forget last year this over weight woman says light em up to me! I look at her and say not at over two hundred a tire! (or a ticket) She goes so what is your point?

Now if she was hot, I may have done it but she out weighed me by at least 150 lbs! I just shook my head and drove away.

My company is renting spectator space around Dugans again this year but I do not want to fight the crowds to get down there.

Now go play with your tools!

Yes, unfortunately lawn chairs and "Body by Cheetos" wife beaters are cheap.

Sometimes, I think Darwin was wrong. My dream job is to be life guard at the gene pool.

I recall there was once supposed to be a crack down on those idiots, but if there has been, the Border Patrol must be in charge because I see tons more each year. Somebody must be giving these rejects the show they want or they'd stay home.

I completely ignore the hicks or respond very rudely, explaining I have a toy worth over $10k (translation: "a heep o' trailers")-- they have a folding chair and no idea what the letters DDS indicate.

That or I invite them to be the padding between my car and the next, in case I get some traction and want to save my paint job. That one gets blank stares.

Still shaking this thing out. Most things, I have figured, just about doing them.

Two things have me stumped.

Anyone have an idea why I'd have a "stutter" (tug?) when I'm at light throttle and under way?

I'm also getting quite an unburned fuel smell. The mechanic insisted my fuel pressure be set at 49 PSI. No check engine light. I'm adding an Accel ignition module tomorrow, just for good measure. Could it be my pump is bad or simply overwhelmed?

The other is my charging system. My dash voltmeter generally reads about 12.4-12.8 and fluctuates anywhere from 11.8 (at stoplights with headlights on) and 12.9 when driving but dips WAY low when cranking.

I do have underdrive pulleys, but I'm thinking the battery is bad since there's so much variation at all times.
