Hi just purchased a 1994 6 speed convertible. I need to know what are the optimum points to shift gears? So from x-mph to x mph I should be in 1st gear, from x-mph to x-mph I should be in 2nd gear, and so on. It has been 15 years at least since I had a stick and the last one was a Toyota! I feel like I am not getting the maximum performance and experience from driving this great car and also I do not want to damage anything. If someone could provide me with some advice I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks |

HI there, Normally, for maximum acceleration for an LT1, 5000-5300 is usually the ideal shift points for 1/2/3 gears. Torque peak is about 4000 rpm. Allthebest, c4c5 |

Hmmm that is interesting. I thought it would be higher for the LT1. That is where I shift on my L98 (5K). It runs out of forward acceleration about 4500 or so, but if you let it run on up to 5K you get a good drop into the next gear. I thought with the LT1 it had a higher redline and more open intake so you could accelerate on up toward 6K and take advantage of more time in the lower gear range. I will keep this in mind if I tangle with an LT1 anytime. :) |
