Started my car and got the service active handling blinking message on the dic. Checked the codes and got a C1288 H in 28-TCS area. Seems to be a right rear excessive wheel speed variation. The message came on when I started the car. What's puzzling is that it's a history code. Only other codes I have are in the HVAC area. Is this something I need to run to the dealer about or can I wait and see if it comes back? The reason I ask is because the dealers near me suck when it comes to servicing Corvettes. I've had quite a few problems. Don't know if this means anything but just prior to having the message appear, I made a u-turn at a traffic light. I made a left hand u-turn which would cause the rr wheel to spin faster than the others. I made it from a dead stop at the light. I had to be going only about 10mph when I made it. Any info is greatly appreciated. I have an '04 Z06. thanks -mark |

Mark, I'm not a tech but I did a google search and this is what I found: (I'm sure one of the techs will chime in and give you advice as well) I had the 1288 and had the Corvette technican change the steering position sensor on my 01 and my codes (1287 and 1288) went away..but anyway here's the google search info Service Active Handling Soon" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All of these codes are History codes (not present right now). 1221 & 1222 = Wheel speed sensor errors 1248 = Dynamic rear proportioning. Can be set if two rear wheel sensors cause an error. Was probably causes by the 1221 & 1222 1288 - This is the one I was expecting. Steering wheel sensor error. I had this error occur numerous times when my car was an infant. I would not bring the car into the dealer just yet. I would erase all of the codes (follow the WWW site link listed above.). Make sure all codes are gone. Double check that you reset all of the codes. Be sure they are all deleted out of history. The next time you get the code while driving bring up the codes while the car is still running. At that point the code should be shown as current "C". See which code is coming back. I suspect the C1288 will come back for a while. It will eventually go away as the steering wheel sensor 'breaks in'. If not, the sensor will need to be replaced. You dealer will just delete the codes and send you on your way. Do yourself a favor and just delete them and watch for their return as I instructed.

Here's another copy and paste about it: Well I guess I should have said the dealer will connect a Tech II to your car and run a steering wheel position sensor test. The sensor will probably pass, the dealer will delete the code and then send you on your way. They are not going to pull your steering column for this right away. I would put some mileage on the car before worrying about it too much. I lifted my car in my garage and did the 100 turns lock to lock at the 700mile mark and that did not seem to help because I got the code a few more times in the next few weeks. My car now has 3500 miles and I have not seen the code since about the 1500 mile mark.

MIne didn't go away so the corvette tech replaced the sensor. It was a relatively painless procedure by an expert and the part was not that expensive either... Probably 3 hours labor by an expert. Good luck.

HI there, AND THIS CODE IS A BIG DEAL. Your active handling system takes into account this sensor to determine commanded turning vs unexpected YAW rate. If this sensor isnt working correctly, you can have problems if you need the active handling. Get the sensor replaced AND your EBTCM reprogrammed IF NECESSARY! Allthebest,c4c5 |

Thanks for the replies. Turns out my code list is wrong and it is a steering sensor. I'm going to clear it and see if it comes back. If it does, I guess it's off to the dealer.
