I really feel bad about hijacking Ralph's thread, so I started a new one named "What year C3's have removable rear window" where we can continue this discussion.

Once again, I am sorry Ralph. The good news is this keeps pushing your thread to the top.

Let us know how you make out with your window replacement.

I would suggest that you also replace the rubber gasket while you have it apart (it might get damaged taking the frame off) and from what I remember the window frame should not be too hard too remove.

Good luck,

John

John that's not a problem, this is all good stuff -- I'm enjoying the exchange and learning from all the participation. ---I will most definately follow up with how I make out. -- Actually I ordered door glass as well but chickened out with the thoughts of installing them myself, so I will get the car over to the auto glass guy for a proper install and may have him do the rear glass as well if If uncomfortable with doing it myself. ---I decided that since I will now have real nice glass in the doors I might as well take care of the rear glass which led to this tread. -- I appreciate everyone's help.

ok i looked it up and i'm glad i did as my recollection was NOT accurate. it was the rear astro vent that changed when a car had a/c or not NOT the rear window. 68-72 ALL had removable rear glass. 73-77 all had fixed rear glass. if the car had a/c the rear astro vents under the grills on the back deck lid were dummys. if it didn't have air the rear astro vents under the grills on the back deck lid were functional.

ralph, if you are doing a correct restoration (which it sounds like you are) i would highly recomend joining ncrs. its $20 a year. you can also purchase the judging manual for your car through them via the mail or on ncrs.org but it costs a little more if your not a member. the manual which is year specific will provide you with all of the correct part numbers and such and only cost about $35. it describes every nut, bolt, screw, etc.. on the car.

My goal is to maintain the integrity of this car, the 1970 LT1 is a significant Corvette and I am committed to correctness. I've been very lucky to find this car which is in near mint condition and other then color is almost 100% unmolested along with all matching numbers and appropriate date codes with only 21K original documented miles. ------------ I definitely will follow your advice which will be a HUGE help me as I go through this process.
Thank you VERY much,
Ralph

even if you dont join ncrs. the judging manual will be your best friend when replacing a bad or broken part. it contains descriptions of all the parts on the car as well as original part numbers and casting numbers.
