CM Any plumbers here?

Spent most of the day installing my new water softner. Bought 3/4 pipe and was moving right along until I went to cut the main discovering I bought 3/4 PVC and the main is 3/4 CPVC! Obviously the two do not mate up...

My questions are, can I use the PVC or do I need CPVC? Why do I have the CPVC already? Code? Can I get a reducer from the PVC to the CPVC?

I did research on the net and did not find that I cannot use PVC and bought because it was the only 3/4 inch plastic pipe the Home Depot had. Even the water softner fittings too are for the larger 3/4 fittings like PVC.

If I have to get all CPVC it is not a big deal since I only spent $25 in PCV pipe and fittings but it is my time that I cannot get back and am mad with.

Now go play with your tools!

you can use pvc but only for the cold water pipe. pvc is not temperature rated for hot water applications. cpvc can be used on the hot and/or cold. make sure that you buy the correct cleaner and glue. dont use the multipurpose stuff.

Thanks aquaholic for the help. Plastic pipe is something that I was not familiar with. I did not know PVC is not for temp rated. In my case I am OK since it is coming off the cold main, I am sure you figured that out too.
