CM 2000 shift knob removal

I have a 2000 Corvette with a 6 speed transmission. How does one remove the stock leather gear shift knob. I thought that it simply unscrewed but it does not. I removed the cap on top of the knob to see if there was a set screw or device but it simply has a small rectangular metal stud. I give up does any one know?

That stud has to come out and then unscrew the knob. I used small vice grips with the dog leg to the passenger side and hit it with a hammer to take it out. Some of them are in there really tight depending on how far the wedge was pushed down. Taking the top off (coupe or conv) is a good idea before attempting to remove the wedge with the hammer method.

Agree with LLC5... the rectangular metal stud has to me removed straight up with a good amount of upward pull and side-to-side wiggle.... Be careful or you'll smack your hand on the roof !

Angry See these instructions

Getting that stud out is tough

Look at this old thread (if the administrator allows it).... it'll take you through the steps of getting that knob off.

http://temp.corvetteforum.net/c5/pat...rInstall.shtml

It took lots of grunt + vice grips + smacking the vice grips with whatever you can... to get the stud out.

Best to ya !
