I have a 2000 C5 convertible with a factory six speed transmission and shifter. I do not really like the factory shifter and feel that it can be improved upon with an aftermarket version. I am considering upgrading to a Hurst or B&M or any others that are available.I was wondering if anyone has converted their factory shifter to an aftermarket one and what type they used and how they liked it. Any input regardingthe installation process and recomendations would be appreciated. I would also like any suggestions and recomendations of whether I should do it or not. Thanks in advance | ||||||||||||||||||||

Put a B & M short throw shifter in my C6, I like it. Lot of people complain about vibration & rattling with the B & M, but I’m not experiencing any.

Not hard, just have to take a lot apart. Console has to come out, disconnect the switches. Shifter for your C5 is the same as a C6 B & M part number 45044. You’ll need some sockets, torx T-15 & T-20 . No special tools required.

FWIW.. I went with a C6 shifter. Shorter throws and height, all GM, it works as it should and I like it.

Hi, I went with the less popular Kirban Kwik shifter because the previous (deceased) owner bought it and never installed it along with some other extras. The shifter is much better than stock, it was easy to install and adjust, along with the CAGS eliminator the car is much more fun to drive...............Have fun
