I have used the old GM spec, the new (current) GM spec , and 2 or 3 quality brake/clutch fluids (Ford, Prestone, ATE). They all worked fine.

Two things I suggest, frequent fluid change (just the resevoir), I do it almost weekly, takes about 1.5 minutes if I have a sip of adult beverage at the same time.

Use a very high temp (dry rating) fluid. Lately I have been using Valvoline Syn. big silver bottle, good results.

HI there,
The latest clutch fluid is the best from GM.
Just remember, that clutch fluid has an antisqueak agent in the fluid to inhibit seal squeaking when depressing the clutch pedal.
That is the major difference with the clutch fluid vs brake fluid, as brake fluid does NOT have this additive.
Either one will work, but do NOT USE SILICONE BRAKE FLUID>

What makes it get so Black? I thought it was the Rubber seals deteriorating?

HI there,
Its called carbon black and its caused by the diaphragm inside the cap.
That leaches carbon which does NOT cause any problem with the fluid, it simply discolors it.
