CM Missing power steering fluid.

Hello,
I own a 2003 Z06. Every month or so my power steering reservoir is low on fluid. There are no signs of fluid leaking. I noticed the boots on the ends of the rack and pinion are deformed. When I move the boots around it sounds like there is fluid in them.

I use this car to run time trail events at road racing tracks around southern California. Could running the car at high rpm for 20 minutes cause the seals at the ends of the rack to fail? Could I replace these seals with the rack in the car?(What are the part #'s for the seals) Would I need any special tools? If I have to replace the whole rack, does the Z06 use the same rack as a coupe?

HI there,
First, if the fluid is NOT changed on a regular basis, yes the end seals may start leaking.
I have to research on the availability of the end seals, as the last time I did one for leakage, I had to replace the entire rack.

What is the considered a regular basis for replacing the p/s fluid, and how is it done?

2003 C5 Roadster with Z06 Ti mufflers & 2-cat H-pipe, Z06 airbox, Z06 calipers, Euro clear tails, and HPTuners software available to any C5 in Calgary.

I do the suck it out & replace with fresh every time I do the clutch resevoir (say 2x a month).

It's easy & fast. Over the course of a year I would say that I replace maybe 1.5 qt clutch & 3.0 qt p/s fluid.

Use GM spec or higher (full syn race) quality.

Seems to work & gives you a chance to eyeball other stuff under the hood.

YMMV
