CM Wieland Intake manifold

Why shouldn't I drop this manifold into my 99? It is a logical progression for where my engine is at due to other mods done, it should fit in nicely. I do not understand the "heat sink" issue. It is a good deal and compares to the gains of the LS6 mani.
I have ported TB and MAF housing with CAI long tube headers hi flo cats and cat back corsa indy's
I do not really want to go into the cam or heads for reliabilty concerns but would like to moderately pursue ideal combo for my personal enjoyment and I dig the look

I went Z06 in my car for the color and to keep it all GM...

However I have seen this intake and correct me here, it can handle any boost better due to thicker runners then GM's, has smoother cuts for better flow and has a removeable floor to port it out even more if desired.

I say get it if you are not concerned about looks!

Now go play with your tools!

Gonna pass as there is a major improvement coming this spring to the wieand intake. This one is a good deal and yes it will not burst with a nitrous back fire or too much psi boost but I dont go there anyway. Thanks for the encouragement but at this point i will wait and see what happens in the spring. Reportedly coming out with a compositer that doubles the gains of the ls6 and the fast intake almost 30hp from an intake that is suppose to be perfect for lightly modded street ls1

Btwn you and I the various manifold intakes that are aftermarket can lead to more trouble than they are worth.

Many and I mean many tuners had horrific trouble with one of the most desirable intakes out there...

I know this sounds like BS but as a friend I'd suggest you leave the manifold you have on the car it has.. (ls1 to ls6 or Fast etc...is 1 to 3 hp)

Save your money or at the very least wait till the product is out a long long while...(and dig deep on the info before laying your cash on the table.)

The way I see it is this... I did a lot of research on the LS6 intake before buying both on Vette sites and Firebird/Camaro sites. Everyone that switched said there were gains. SLP is where I got mine and they have dealt with the Gen 3 engines for years. Plus GM switched all LS1's to the LS6 intake in 2001 I believe.

I also figure with my car stock HP at the engine is 345. With all of my bolt on mods, I am making 330 HP at the wheels. A difference of only 15, I think the LS6 intake is helping my car. After the Dyno the tuner said my engine was probably making near 380 HP.

Also, when I compared my LS1 intake to the new LS6, I could see differences, the LS6 was larger inside and more open.

Just my take on these intakes, that is all...

Sounds like Wieland has taken the idea of the LS6 and improved on it.

HI there,
The idea of a heat sink is the conduction of heat through similar metallic components.
Aluminum heads to aluminum intakes conduct more heat, therefore heat the incoming air MORE then a composite plastic intake.
So, plastic is better, because of a lower heat conduction rate from the heads to intake to air.
That is the principle.
