CM 08 Z51 Manual Trans Problem

I purchased a 08 Z51 6 speed in Jan with 28 miles on it. It has been hard to shift since new, was hoping it would losen up with a few miles on it (650 miles now). The clutch engagement point was close to the floor and I had read in one of the threads that changing the dark clutch fluid would help. I changed the fluid in the clutch reservoir and the clutch feel improved greatly and the engagement point now feels like a normal clutch. The trans still grinds the gears between 1 to 2 shift and the 2 to 3 shift. After the trans has warmed up (20 minutes of driving on 60 degree day) the shifting improves but is still not smooth.

Any ideas?

Thanks

HI there,
First, what did your dealership say or do about your condition? Your explaining clutch engagement and shifting condition.
The transmission will take up to 5-7000 miles to start to break in because of the syncronizer design.
We dont know what clutch fluid you used, however because the transmission does improve as it warms, you might want to have your shifter adjusted.
88958860 is the GM clutch fluid number and should be what is used whene FLUSHING your clutch fluid. The clutch engagement should be 1-1.5 inches off the floor. THAT is normal. YOU MUST go all the way to the floor with the clutch in order to fully disengage the clutch and not grind the gears.
Allthebest, c4c5

I took the car to the dealer and asked about the dark clutch fluid. I did not mention the transmission grinding on the 1-2 shift and 2-3 shift, which has gotten worse. The dealer said the clutch fluid was not contaminated and sent me on my way. I changed the fluid in the reservior using DOT 4 fluid which did help. I will try to get back to the dealer this week.

Thanks

Jim
