When I first start to drive my 1 month old '08 The shift from 1st-2nd is all but impossible to shift without clashing the gears (2nd - 3rd is an issue also). It's almost as if I do not step on the clutch all the way and or the synchros are not working. After the car comes up to temp all is OK. I am worried that the initial warm up is wearing metal and I am getting metal in the gearbox. Double clutching does seem to help, but I feel this should not be neccesary on a new car/tranny. Thanks for any help |

HI there, It will take up to 7500 for a new transmission to bed in the frictional surfaces of the syncronizer. Are you shifting very quickly? That would lead to a bedding in condition. The first thing that would be suggested is to have your dealership adjust the shifter just to make sure its correct. Let us know if there is anything else we can assist with. Allthebest, c4c5 |

I am not shifting hard or fast (YET) only 1200 miles on the car, 7500 miles sure seems like a long time for break in of a tranny, I will take it to a dealer, but feel that if they test drive it, they will tell me there is nothing wrong, because it will have been warmed up. by the way it is the z-51 version. By the time ther are that many miles, I am sure there will be a bunch of metal in the tranny fluid........ not good |

HI there, The warmup is your key. If it didnt go away when it warmed up, I would agree that there is a problem. So, simply leave the vehicle in the dealership overnight, and then go there in the morning and road test with the dealership manager. That will show them the issue and they will not have any excuses if there is something wrong. Allthebest, c4c5 |

Yes warm up must be considered... Not sounding like it is an excuse for GM but on my C5 if I just pull the shifter quickly to the next gear not using the clutch quickly like a fast get-away shift, just pulling the shifter quickly, I can get a clash.

Personally, I feel that would be an excuse from GM. I do not try to shift it fast nor do I even run it up above 2.5K rpm until it all comes up to temp. If I did not double clutch during that period, gears/synchros would definatly GRIND. In all honesty it feel like I am not even stepping on the clutch especially shifting 1st to 2nd. I have a serious background in mechanics as a former Aircraft Inspector and mechanic. What worries me is just how much metal wear this causes and how much metal may now be in the gearbox. Does anyone here know of a dealer in the Sacramento that has a Tech specially trained in Corvettes? |

HI there, First, the clutch MUST be all the way to the floor or you WILL grind the syncronizers. The clutch engages less then 2" off the floor. Second, it will take MUCH MUCH more then 1500 miles to create internal problems even when you clash. You know when its doing it and obviously, your NOT forcing the shift. So, I doubt there is ANYTHING appreciable in the fluid or excessive wear has occurred. Allthebest, c4c5 |

I've got an '07 Z with the T-56 tranny. The car had 4 miles on it when I drove it off the dealer's lot. It never grinds or is hard to get in gear no matter if its 20 degrees or 90 degrees. I don't have to warm it up either. The only problem I ever had was finding 3rd on high rpm shifts, but I've discovered my problem with that, bad hand placement on the shift knob. Also, my '04 Z with 4 miles on the odo was the same, no shifting problem. Is there a problem with the new T-6060 tranny? augydog | ||||||||||||||||||||

Seems like the 6060 trans synchros do not like to start working well untill the tranny comes up to a working temp. Some have changed fluid and have better results, The tranny is great except for the first ten minutes or so. Personally, I feel there is a flaw and this should not happen, but what do I know.
