Smile Corvette Service

I do ALL of my own work, on ALL of my vehicles! The only time my cars have been in the dealership was when they were new at delivery! I see the day coming when we all will be going to the dealer for service. Depending on the dealer, this could be a good thing.

Thank you Paul for all the good things you have done for the Corvette community!

I do all my own work on the Corvette. Hasn't been to a dealer since purchased.

That is why this site is so important.

DIY as much as possible myself, but if an expensive part is involved, then GMPP at dealer or trusted independent.

Actually I get much better service at the independent (and he is authorized for gmpp). Seems he believes me when I tell him something is wrong with the car & he wants my warr & non warr business.

At my dealer I always seem to have to "prove" something is wrong & then "argue" if it's covered or not.

Wife's BMW gets excellent service at her dealer (I take it there).

I know the Chevy Service Manager but his techs seem to come & go.

Thanks Paul, for being here for us.

I do most of the work myself, but if it is a warranty issue I will let my mechanic or dealer take care of it. This way I can take action if necessary.

I do all of my own work. My 07 Z51 coupe has been to the dealer once for warranty replacement of the radio/NAV (defective touch screen) which required a warranty part and a Tech II for setup.

The radio/NAV was diagnosed as defective at the NCM 2007 Labor Day event. When I returned home to Raleigh, I called my dealer to make an appointment for replacement. They had me bring it in on a Monday morning so they could extract the radio/NAV part number with a Tech II and order the part. Replacement was scheduled for 9 AM on the following Thursday.

I arrived just before 9AM and my service adviser told me they did not have the part. He asked if I wanted to leave the car not knowing when (or if) the part would arrive, I said NO. I am a self-employed consultant and loosing two hours of my time costs me a good deal of money, I was not at all happy that they did not take the time to call me so that I would not waste a trip.

The service adviser called me about noon time and indicated that the part had arrived and could I have the car back there by 1 PM. I arrived shortly before 1 PM and presented them with my car. I went to the waiting area and at about 2:30 PM I was paged to go to the cashiers office, my car was ready and I had to sign some paperwork (no charges).

I went outside and could not find my service adviser, it turns out he was on a lunch break. After about 15 minutes I found another adviser to help me. He told me the car was done and showed me where it was located. I went to the car and the first thing I noticed was that the solid cover, that goes where the F55 controls would be, was not installed. I found it inside of the console and installed it myself. I drove home, the car and the NAV worked just fine.

When I arrived home I noticed a big grease spot on my cashmere carpets. I asked my wife if she had something that would clean it without damage to the carpet. While she was cleaning the carpet she noticed that the drivers seat was also badly spoiled and she cleaned that as well.

I left two messages for the service manager, but he never returned my calls. It seems that not only do that not respect my property and my time, they don't respect me.

About two days latter there was a message on my answering machine indicating that GM was going to send me a satisfaction survey, would I please fill it out indicating I was completely satisfied. What nerve they have!

When I was younger I did all of my own work because I could not afford to have anyone do it for me. These days I do all of my own work to protect my property.

If I could find a way to obtain warranty replacement parts without having the dealer install them, I would purchase a Tech II (I know how much they cost) and do warranty work myself as well. I just pray I never need to use my GMPP.

The only dealer that I have ever found that respects my property and my time is the Lexus dealer that services my wife's car. They only see me for warranty work, but I have never had any issue with them.

C4C5, I wish I was closer to you. I would trust you to work on my car having read many of your posts and meeting you last year at Carlisle. (I was the guy that spoke to you after the morning seminar about the C6 spindle nut issue).

I am sure many of you have horror stories that are much worse than mined. Sad state of affairs.

Save The Wave,
John

Talking

I use the same Corvette specialist as JBsZ06.

I would not trade his expertise and devotion to customer satisfaction for anyone else! So I drive @100 miles one-way (from NJ to CT) just to have him service my car; 2001 Z06.

I tried a local Chevy dealership here in NJ who sponsors a local Corvette club one time thinking that they should be good. But I learned my lesson. They scratched a wheel somehow when they lifted the car, said they repaired a problem (actually a misfire due to spark plug wire chafing against the header, as I later learned) and charged me >$250. One my way home from this dearlership I experienced the same problem that I had brought the car to them to fix. So I made an appointment back in CT and the car was diagnosed and fixed in just a few minutes. In fact it was fixed in the parking lot, before I had a chance to even bring the car inside of the shop! All it took was to connect the Tech2, properly diagnose the problem and install a new spark plug wire.

So Thanks C4C5!
