Is anyone familiar with a company called Precision Engineering, www.fixvetteparts.com, who make the o-ringed calipers? Is this a better caliper than others stainless steel sleeved cailpers? TIA.

HI there, Honestly, there really isnt any better design than another. If you look at the book, Corvettes from the Inside by Dave Mclellan, he explained that the issues with those calipers was simply the cars that we NOT driven were experiencing moisture that wasnt driven out of the calipers when they get warm. That being said, a revised seal was developed to cure that condition. Personally, in the service end of it, I have never seen one create a problem except when they sit and the seal of the 2 caliper halves start to leak. Piston to bore corrosion is really something that is rarely seen anymore. Allthebest, c4c5 |

Have you had problems with the stainless steel sleeved calipers? I restored a 68 coupe in 1975 and replaced all of the calipers with stainless steel sleeved units. I had one leak within the first year and it was replaced by the manufacturer I purchased it from (somewhere in MA I think). I sold that vehicle in 2001 with about 22K miles since restoration. About 5 years before I sold it the right front started to leak. I took it apart and only the seals were bad, the bore and piston were just fine. I put it a new seal kit and all was well. The last 10 years I owned the car it was only driven 300-400 miles per year so there was a lot of opportunity for moisture problems but the stainless steel held up well. The best I can recall the calipers had non GM pistons as well as the stainless steel sleeves. Very worth while investment. Save The Wave, John | ||||||||||||||||||||
