CM more on the starter problem

It must be the switch, even after replacing it, the second you turn the key to on, the starter starts to rotate, don't have to turn it to start. So when I was turning the key back, I was actually shutting it off. I believe it may be in the wiring even though it is a new harness. It worked fine for a while. Any help from here would be appreciated. dmorrie

had some time this week-end to really check it out. Found the wire going to the solenoid and the wire from the balast resistor shorted just above the stater. Working great now, thanks for the help. Morrie

That's why I was asking about the year of the vehicle, that is fairly common. Also if it is a points and condensor car, the wires at the coil could be installed wrong. The bypass wire can accidentally get installed with the ignition wire to the coil. Make sure you know why it was shorted and repair the cause, heat, chafing, etc.

CM Thanks for the advice, it appears that the manifold heat melted the 2 wires together. I rerouted hopefully with enough space to prevent this from reoccurring. Morrie
