Looking at a VERY nice 67 300 HP Corvette Roadster to buy. --- All matching numbers and major parts are correct as they should be. The problem that concerns me and consequently holding me back at this time are 2 fold: 1. At idle there is a minor but noticable engine vibration consistantly at around 2200 RPM ---it's Ok under and OK over that range. (note: engine was professionally rebuilt inclusive of balancing about 600 miles ago) . 2. The car has a Powerglide transmission and when you put it into foward gear it sets in very normal, however when you put it into reverse it thugs into gear with a noticable jolt feeling like the transmission is going to fall out. Would you gentlemen have any ideas that would be most common to these problems that I could pass onto the seller and is there any possibilty that they are related? Thank you very much, Ralph

My thought on the reverse clunk is a U joint. Maybe the engine vibration is the harmonic balancer? I had a Powerglide in a '67 Malibu. Great trans!

Thank you, I passed that onto the mechanic. UPDATE: They found the vibration which wound up being the fan clutch ---but so far have no resolve for the reverse problem --- they checked the U joints and said they looked fine ----A couple of guys have suggested to replace the cushion snubber which is just in front of the rear axle which they say can make a dramtic difference if the old ones are brittle ?? --but why then is it OK when puting the car in foward if the snubber is brittle?

HI there, The snubber is a 2 sided rubber bushing, one side is pressured in reverse, the other side in forward. Thus the reason for the difference. Allthebest, c4c5 |

| Thank you, that's what I was hoping to hear because I now have logic and hope that the problem MAY be resolved with a fairly simple and inexpesive fix. by putting in a new snubber cushion.
