CM Inner boot of half shaft slipped of

Just got back from an autocross and as I was changing the tires out, I noticed that the inner boot on the half shaft had slipped of the inside edge and partially inverted. It does not look torn just slipped of. There was some grease thrown around but not a huge amount. I was just going to add some lithium grease to the joint and put the boot back on. Does this sound OK. Can I get just the clamp for the boot somewhere or do I just use a large screw clamp??

It won't hurt to try adding grease and running it.
A large hose clamp will work good enough .

If the joint ran dry, it's probably toast.

HI there,
DO NOT use lithium grease.
It is not engineered for load bearing on tripot joint bearings.
Obtain CVjoint grease and then you can do that.

Do not use a large screw clamp. Get a universal CV boot clamp designed to work with the boot.

While I agree a CV clamp is better, what problems would a large hose clamp create ?

I think it could loosen up under the vibration of that area, cv clamp (usually) more secure.

Hose clamp ok if you don't mind check/tighten every few months.

Technically it can work for a while, but eventually it will cut and damage the boot. Plus the added inertia of the mechanical screw adjuster is not good.

Question

Makes sense as far as inertia goes.
I've never seen a CV clamp that you could put on without pulling the shaft/CV joint.
Is there such a clamp ?

As far as cutting the boot I guess you are referring to the the screw attachment touches the boot.
