Need guidance on this one. I have an 04 vert driven only occasionally (2K miles) and it mostly lives in the garage with the Battery Tender connected. The car has always performed flawlessly until recently when I started it to take it out for some exercise. The DIC displayed two messages: "Service active Handling Soon" and "Service ABS Soon." Have never seen these before although once about two years ago it flashed "Check Charging System" briefly and when I restarted the engine that message disappeared and has not returned. The current ABS/ Active Handling warnings aren't disappearing though. The car still has the original battery and while I have not checked to see what the cranking voltage is it has never been a problem that I am aware of. Reason I say this is I was advised the battery will sometime cause this and this one is five years old now. I pulled the following stored codes: Current list of OBD-II Diagnostic Trouble Codes: C1282HC Yaw Rate Sensor Bias Circuit Malfunction C1284HC Lateral Accelerometer Sensor- Self Test Fault C1285HC Lateral Accelerometer Sensor Circuit Malfunction C1287HC Steering Sensor Rate Malfunction C1288HC Steering Wheel Position Sensor C1296HC Master Cylinder Brake Pressure Sensor Circuit Open Or Shorted Additionally there were two other TCS codes stored: C1233H RF Wheel Speed Circuit Open or Shorted C1237H High System Supply Voltage Where should I start looking? Thanks in advance, Greg

HI there, Actually, this is going to require some work. It looks like the 5 volt reference is gone, creating the current codes listed. Depending on your level of experience, your tools you have, you might be able to diagnose it. What are your capabilities?? Allthebest, c4c5 |

Thanks for the reply c4c5specialist. I have a good selection of of Snap-On tools here at home. I used to be a service tech many years ago but this was back in the Eighties before the various sensors, transducers and computer control systems were as extensive as they are now so I will need some guidance but I think I understand the fundamentals. I also purchased a set of 04 Corvette Helms manuals and I Have a Fluke DMM but do not have a Tech scanner or any other type of scan tool but I am willing to get one if necessary to figure this one out. I would like to fix it myself rather than take it to the dealer for the opportunity to learn and have the sense of accomplishment if for nothing else. Regards, Greg

HI there, Below is your schematic to what you looking at. If you look at the system, there is one 5 volt reference that supplies every sensor to which you have a code. So, that being said, checking this 5 volt circuit is the first course of action. CKT 1056 from the ABS module powers the sensors, so you need to determine if one is pulling the voltage DOWN or the module is not SENDING the power to the sensors. Your easiest sensor is the brake pressure sensor to access. Simply disconnect it and check terminal B, which is your grey wire. 5.00 volts is what you should have with the key on. Let us know what you have. Allthebest, c4c5 |

I had several of these codes shortly after buying my 02 Z06 used. I found that the battery, apparently the original, had a hairline crack on the bottom. It was leaking acid into the tray then below. This is where all or most of the connectors live. You'll need to remove the tray to see the connectors. A lot of them had been eaten though and even some damage to the casing of the ECM.
