Question 1976 Rear End Problem

I have 76 Corvette that makes a growling type noise in the rear end (or somewhere in the back of the car) when it has been driven a lot. For instance if I drive it only a few miles around town I don't hear anything. Today I drove it about 60 miles on the interstate. After getting off the interstate I was at a stop light. When I started going and making a right turn, I heard a deep growling type of noise coming from somewhere in the back end. It sounds like it's coming from the drivers side in the back, but I am not 100% certain if it's the driver's side or the center of the back of the car. If I take off going straight, I don't hear it. If I take off and turn to the left I hear it again.

How do I tell if it's a problem with the differential, or the wheel bearings, or the brakes?

HI there,
The first thing that you should do is to put the car up in the air with the wheels hanging.
Grip the tire at the 12 and 6 position and move the tire in and out.
Then, at the 3 and 9 position, do the same,
You should have less than 1/16 inch play.
This will test the wheel bearings, but based on what you have stated, its mostly from the left when you are turning right, I would be checking the left rear wheel bearing first.
Allthebest, c4c5
