CM Oil Change

I just bought my first Corvette this past Xmas. It is a 2006 silver coupe auto with Magnetic select ride. Is it easy to change the oil myself or take it to the dealer/jiffy lube??

HI there,
If you can do an oil change on other vehicles, you can do it on Corvette.
As long as you can get underneath it.
The filter part number and oil type specification is in your owners manual.

If you take it to Jiffy Lube, someone should take the car away from you. I don't even take my beater cars there.

they scam/upsell, bill for work not done, miss grease fittings, etc. Have you not seen any of the sting operations on the news about quick lube places?

x2. i wouldn't go to one of those places if it was the last oil change center on earth. if your gonna take it anywhere, go to a chevy dealership. they cant charge that much for an oil change.

I have a great local lube shop run by a car buff. Uses nothing but the best and stocks high-end filters for "special" cars, like Corvettes.

Maybe contact your local Corvette club and see if there's one in your area too.

i still say chevy dealer if you don't want to tackle it yourself. what could they possibly charge? $69 to $79 for a oil change with a gm filter and mobile 1 synthetic oil. my mom just had her 08 jeep liberty done at a chrysler dealership for $67 and they sent a guy to the parts store and bought castrol syntec for her because thats what she told them i was putting in it. talk about good small town service, the oil came in a 6 pack and they even gave her back the spare quart.

Every time I take my 2005 C6 to dealership, it's $115 for oil change/filter. Of course they check everything else and top fluids. I love it that they check my windshield and say it's good excpet for the 1 " crack right in the middle which for some reason they cannot see.... It's a ripoff but I don't want to go to a Jiffy Lube.

get a set of Rhino Ramps be sure they are low profile and a waste oil can. Get an oil filter wrench and the right socket for the drain plug. It is fun and you know it is done right. The Corvette looks great from underneath

Is changing the oil pretty simple, I'm no mechanic!

Getting it up on the ramps is the trick part. Getting under the car can be a challenge depending upon your fitness. Not cross threading the drain plug is the big issue but not a big deal. Disposing the used oil and sometimes getting the filter off can be demeanding. Other than that it is a snap and fun to do. You know it is done right and no yahoos drive your car.
Get a funnel too while you are at it and know how many quarts of mobil1 your C6 needs. Once you locate the right filter keep the number handy for repurchase. You can save $100 every time you do it that makes the inital outlay of funds worth it. I can aford to have mine done but I enjoy it do it at my time without hassle. Do it with a cold engine
