Exclamation '94 clutch noise need help please

'94 6spd stick...single ohc..300hp...just bought

i had it for about a month, clutch seemed fine then all of a sudden i get a metal scaring noise with clutch pedal full in...took out drive shaft and when i unbolted the tranny a flanged, copper or brass looking hex bolt fell out...

can anyone tell me what this is. i've been searching schematics and diagrams for two weeks...can't find it anywhere...it came from in between the bell housing and the tranny i believe...it has some red lock tight on the thread...

do i have to pull the clutch and housing too or can i replace this bolt and reassemble?

thank you,
Jyurcic

Hi there,
If you unbolted the transmission, its probably the clutch fork bolt.
If you can post a pic, that would be better, so we can ACCURATELY identify it.
As for the rest, dont chance it.
Take the bellhousing and the clutch OUT and fully inspect everything.

CM thank you

it is indeed the fork ball stud...almost have the housing off now...it appears there is a smaller hex head bolt(the one previously mentioned) inside the larger hex head that is the actual fork ball stud...the threads appeared to be severed...what would i call the smaller one?

thank you

CM got the housing off here's what i got

on the inside (closest to engine) of the fork there are wear marks where the fork has rubbed on the aluminum ring around the fan like clutch(sorry i don't know the technical terms)

i don't have a camera but the fork is rubbing on the outer ring of the clutch...

can you help a low tech dude out?

thank you,

HI there,
Our suggestion is to NOT take a chances.
Replace the clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing and pilot bearing.
These parts in the picture below are available from a Chevrolet dealership going through VPI

13 is the clutch fork stud 10227809
12 is your retainer BOLT for the stud 10227810

Flywheel and clutch kits are available aftermarket.

DO NOT resurface the old flywheel.

CM thank you

the retainer bolt backed out causing the fork stud to do the same which caused the fork to hit the clutch when i pushed it in

i took off the clutch bell housing tightened the fork stud and the retainer thread could reach...i applied lock tight and reassembled...everything works great..thanks for the help...

peace,
