I see this as a way GM is going around each dealers contract, and within each state. GM just can't close a dealer, by contract and state laws, which are in place to protect delaers. Not unless GM wants a huge legal battle that is. Doing it this way is a way arouund each dealers contract. At any rate, it sucks!

It does suck! This is actually how GM customer service has been treating it's customers for decades, it was the individual dealers and employees themselves that made GM look good warranty wise. Sure puts "Buy American" only because it's an American owned company into a new perspective.

the big problem is there are 2 many chevy dealers. with in 15 miles radius of my house there 7 chevy dealers and all this does is split the sales and profit. my dealer is a small family owned dealership but the family also owns 4 plastic factories around the world so they seem to be doing all right so far. i have been buying from them since 1958 and this is only the second owner in all that time. there are several mega dealer in the area but the customers like me like the fact that the people running this dealership know you by your first name and the mrs worked there for 15 years as a title clerk and office manager during the 80s and 90s

Wasn't GMAC spun off a few years back to into one of those fly-by-night mortgage companies? I remember when dealers had a dozen cars and you had to order yours if you didn't like what was in stock? That was the case until the 80s. The Big Three put WAY too much financial responsibility on the dealer, making him lot too many cars, so to cover, what do they do, run up warranty claims! Not saying all do, but most do. They like making the customer feel the dealer is his ally and the companies pay. Those palatial dealers we have in these parts show the proof. Something is paying for them! I never see anyone in my local Jag dealer buying a car when I get work done or buy parts--and it's only one of two in an area of 2 MILLION people. On my own, I didn't notice a thing wrong with my rear differential. The dealer said it "might" cause problems after my warranty expired the next month, so they fixed it. Had they not, I would have been pissed, but I would have paid. Instead, Jaguar did. I'm glad it went that way, but it just shows how the company is seen as deep pockets by everyone, us included. In truth, the biggest culprit is the hiring of nitwits in the White Collar jobs. Too many I knew were wildly incompetent, but met a quota, had a father/uncle/wife/husband, etc. who got them the job and protected them. One friend made $150k/yr as a buyer at Ford. For thirty years, his personal objective was to save his whole salary before lunch. Usually, it was many times that. When Jacques Nassar took over, he led an assault on every White man his own age, because people that looked like them had called him names as a child in Australia. My friend was forced into early retirement at 51. Our friends there told us stories of how his department was then overrun by fresh grads who worked for peanuts, but met quotas, had daddies, impressive degrees, etc. None made more than $40k--or was able to argue with any supplier, thus losing Ford many millions of dollars! Penny wise, pound foolish? Yet Jacques the Knife retired/was forced out and walked away with many tens of millions, and a ticking time bomb that went off in the past few years. Bill Ford Jr. then took over after many years of being Hank I's great-grandson....

Credit crisis has been crippling everybody... I'm hopeful that some including this dealership might just find the financing and of course the customers to purchase the cars on the lot before the trucks come to pull the vehicles off the lot.. Where are they putting all these cars they claim to be taking away from dealerships..and who pays to store the cars and trucks once they take them away??? Whats the sense of that? Scary stuff....I'm very sorry for all those who have been affected. JB

Sadly, Chevy will just shove them down the throat of another dealer(s). My understanding is that each company "floor plans" a dealer: deciding what and how much he/she should sell. Then they deliver these cars, "owned" by GMAC and the dealer has X days (30?) to sell them before he has to start paying GMAC for having the car on his lot. Years ago, a Ford dealer in GA got smart with my mom a month after she bought a car. Small warranty item and he asked her if she "thought the car would last forever". I was working at Ford then and my mom called in a huff. The dealer knew she had family at Ford in Michigan because she'd bought the car on a family discount-- a rare thing in her area. Rocket scientist, the guy was not! I called a fraternity brother, also at Ford, but in marketing. He phoned up old Goober and told him if he did not fix the car immediately, and didn't right then start kissing my mom's butt, he'd refloor plan the whole dealership and make sure he got nothing but Tempos ( a sales dog!) and pink pick-ups for the next ten years. My mom never paid for another oil change....

I have an appointment for an oil change at this dealership and swapping out the clutch fluid.. with Dworkin.. when my son is out of school for spring break.. We enjoy the trip up there.. the dealer service department I spoke with seemed very polite as always. Maybe they are getting financing and can go back to normal ? Hopefully as I like the dworkin team.
