Just changed oil today and I smelled gas in the oil. I normally wouldn't be concerned about it but the oil was also thin. The engine is a stock 327 300 HP corvette motor. I don't smell any severe gas odor coming from the the carb (Holley 3367) nor do I see any puddling in the intake. The only other way to get gas into the engine, IMO, is through the fuel pump. The pressure in the pump is fine and the motor isn't starved for fuel even under heavy throttle. Any ideas? Thanks... Rmblroar |

the diaphram could still be leaking as far as the carb goes you would have to see if the float is sinking and fuel is in fact draining into the intake it really would not take to long for the fuel to dissipate what carb is on the car sorry I see it is a holley how old is it I suppose the needles and seat could be leaking or possible bowl and metering plate gaskets could have a problem Steve

I let the car sit for a couple of days and still no smell of gas. I opened both pri and sec and looked into the intake and not pooled gas. If my memory serves me right, I think on these old mechanical pumps gas can pass into the crankcase it the pump diaphragm is defective. The pump has been on there for as long as I've had the car (23 yrs) so I'm going to change it out. Thanks for your response on this..... |
