NY Auto show Best of awards ...(by me fwiw! LOL)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The new Buick Lacrosse really surprised me..

I've seen it in numerous photos and was slightly impressed but today....in silver they had the 33,800 dollar Buick Lacrosse sport model and it was truly a personal favorite..

I know it sounds weird that I would choose a buick or any buick model as a personal favorite but it was that sharp..

And it wasn't the 40 grand top of the line model with chrome wheels..blah..blah..but rather the 33,800 dollar sport model.. that I preferred..

Really a good looking ..top of the line winner for GM..

Best new 4 door sedan..was the Buick Lacrosse..

Surprisingly....I thought the new Ford Taurus SHO would be an even greater personal winner but it wasn't..

Not a bad line on the Ford SHO...but none that made me want to own it.

i like the twin turbo 365hp V6 and possibly a dual clutch sequential transmission...(not sure if its that or a torque convertor automatic though) but the ford didn't wow me...like the Buick lacrosse..

of course the AWD 365 hp TAurus SHO will be the better performance vehicle..so kudos to ford for its fine effort..

The mustang was new and just ok..

The camaro was a HUGE HIT at the show..

People couldn't get enough of it..

I sat in the camaro and its a huge WIN as well..

The Chevy Cruze? Looks awesome in person....even better than its larger sibling...the malibu...which I used to like as one of GM's best sedans..

OF course the top of the line CTS V was a performance icon...as was the entire GM G8 GT and GXP sedans..

All great but none better looking than the buick Lacrosse..(this is quite strange as I never would have thought I'd ever say this about any buick...but it was that sharp)

The Chevy volt was hidding in the very back of the chevy display and looked very cool.. None the less....Going to be a game changer for sure..

Interestingly enough the 25 grand....Cobalt SS sedan was looking good too.. and not as dated as i would have thought...That 260hp turbo four..must be having some influence on me...(plus the SS was black with a nice interior) Not worth 25 g's though...IMO

I don't remember seeing any HHR SS's ..and there was NO CORVETTE COUPE OR CONVERTIBLE!! FIRST TIME EVER! just the Z06 and ZR1 which had people climbing in and out of..

I had a long conversation with the "product specialist" that a 2010 corvette grand sport with a wide body fender and big wheel and tire combo would be a huge hit...No runflat tires should also be part of the package too..

I'm sure it was lip service but he seemed very interested.. and took notes..LOL(probably threw them in the garbage after but you never know)

Acuras new crossover was hideous as was the whole lineup..

Nissans cube and 370 Z were cool looking..

the Solstice GXP coupe was a bad color on display but it looked good..

Mercedes ...bmw..audi...big yawns for the most part...but the V10 R8 looked hot in red..
Don't care for the sawblade down the middle though..(black carbon fiber with the red R8)

Chrysler really had nothing and the whole lineup in my opinion was dated badly...Even what used to be cool..the 300C..

the yellow electric lotus remake was sharp though..

VW? nothing..and the new Golf was boring..

Lexus? Nothing..

Infiniti? nothing..special..

Honda ? Nothing..

Suby? nothing..

Mitsubishi? nothing..

toyota? I missed the entire display and I wanted to see the IQ..oh well..

Saab? I didn't even see it.

Saturn? Boring..

GMC Terrain? HORRIBLE! almost Astek like..going to be a big loser..

Chevy Equinox? saw it and didn't attract me so I kept on walking..

The new Cadillac SRX looked pretty dam sharp..

the linclon lineup was a snooze fest..

Ford fiesta didn't look too good in some kind of green paint thing going on...and I wanted to like it..

Kia Soul looked ok...in the basement...
Not as cool as I thought I would like it though...Probably the lighting?

Sorry if I missed anything and didn't mention it..

Feel free to give your opinions of the show if you saw it..

Just shooting the breeze..

Best 4 door sedan? Not the expected ford taurus sho..but rather the buick Lacrosse...

I still can't believe I'm saying the buick was such a winner...

Maybe it was lowered or something because it really did look sharp...and if lowered ..that would disqualify it...

maybe it was the lighting?

BTW..the jaguars looked good...

J.B,

Good review. But, one question: where would GM put the spare, jack, and tools in the corvette to be able to get rid of the run flats? The space provided by no spare tire is nice, and I do use it. I personally use runflats on my own vehicle because of no spare tire in a C5, but I am a bigger fan of a spare tire and non runflats.

I told the product specialist today...if my 2008 Cadillac CTS does n't have runflats or a spare tire or jack...Why does my corvette need it?

If I can get around for 60K miles in my c5 z06 with non runflats..(and I got a few flats that were no big deal..

Just plugged it up with a two dollar plug kit from k mart and a 20 dollar compressor to inflate it..

I never used the 500 dollar GM tire repair kit because it was 500 bucks..

k marts 20 dollar inflater fits in the small rear compartment as does the 2 dollar plug kit..

Can't wait till my goodyear runflats wear out so I can buy a set of Nitto Invos for 930 installed and balanced..

Should be the best "mod " I do on this C6 Z51 w/npp...

I do believe...if the Cadillac can run with no runflats and no spare...then I can run the vette the same way..

i'd say GM would have or could offer it up on the 2010 grand sport with wider fenders, wheels and tires...and find out what customer response might be..

I suggested the 2010 wide body grand sport with non runflat tires could fetch 5 grand over the base coupe and vert prices..

Thats all MSRP for the grand sport wide body too..IMO

I told him I wanted the option of 1lt too

I have it...and as crazy as it sounds..it fits my needs perfectly...

All just my opinion and not worth a penny more! LOL

Your CTS came from the factory with non runflats and no spare tire or jack and tools? I am assuming it has TPMS, so no fix a flat can be used. What does your owners manual tell you you to do in the case of a flat tire? Just curious.

My guess would be that your CTS did come with run flats rated to go 50-100 miles with zero air pressure in them, and that they are as quiet and ride as good as non runflats. Either way, the CTS is a nice car, I have been considering one them for a while now.

I just checked...Its got a sealant kit in the trunk tire well.. No spare..

I thought I remembered it was an option I didn't take when I bought the car..

If you like you can buy a spare I believe...for a few hundred dollars..

I didn't..To be honest..I'd rather throw a plug kit and a compressor in the trunk..

its easier than changing the tire and my wifes never going to do that anyway..

She'll just call me.. LOL and worst case scenerio..i'll just have it towed if I can't fix it..

I'm just saying if the caddy doesn't have a spare or runflats..then why does the corvette have to..

JMO but I'd rather have non runflats..Runflats ride too hard and the extra unsprung weight is a pain in the butt..

JMO btw..the new buick Lacrosse is such a cool looking car in the sport model..that for 33.800 dollars..I'd recommend that over the CTS which is a car I also love..

that new Lacrosse was that hot looking today..

I don't know if it was lowered but if it was at stock height..this looked like one bad @ss ride.. (even better than the CTS FE2 with AWD that I own) and I like that car..
