CM My Vette has gas!

I have a strange situation. When I open my fuel tank, it lets out a couple second "woosh" that's pretty disturbing, but kinda cracks up the third grader in me.

Is this a return line issue? Is my canister saturated, or is the check valve toast?

I've replaced the fuel pump recently and that didn't stop the problem.

Thanks!

I could be wrong about this but I would say it is a pretty normal occurrence, the tank builds pressure when the fuel warms up and it does this with the return fuel and heat of the day. Some of the vapors are collected in the charcoal canister and burned when first started in the A.M. using a purge solenoid and a vent valve other than that it is a sealed system and pressure build up would be normal my 92 builds up pressure . the feds do not want these vapors in the air and that is also why there is vapor recovery at most fueling stations

That sounds reasonable, but the woosh is pretty recent, well at least within the last five years.

I'm just concerned it's abnormal and I'm driving a hydrogen bomb. That pressure release is really something and though it doesn't seep into the atmosphere, it gets there anyway when I uncap.

I thought maybe the canister or check valve failed and the fumes were storing in the tank instead of being "washed" through the canister.
