I don't know about the specific Hankook tire you're talking about. But, I put a set of Hankooks on my wife's 2002 Ford Lightning....They are the best tires that I've ever had on the truck. Of course the only company making that size before Hankook got in the game was Goodyear. The truck is still very capable but it is a whole lot more comfortable with the Hankooks.

I've seen Hankook (who named them that??) on several new Fords around here. I wonder if they're not getting some OEM contracts. Get used to foreign-made tires. The Liberals get their way, it'll be illegal to manufacture anything here but intrusive government and unemployment.

| Car & Driver tire test ... 9 low buck offrerings take on the Big Dog PS2 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Could any of these nine low cost offerings knock off the Pilot Sport PS2? The Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 in the test size of 225/45-17 costs $192.00. Here's where the challengers come in price wise: BF Goodrich G-Force T/A KDW2 ($126) Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport ($132) Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec ($137) Falken Azenis RT-615 ($121) Hankook Ventus V12 EVO ($106) Kumho Ecsta XS ($120) Ling Long L688 ($57) Nitto Invo ($117) Yokohama S-Drive ($115) The test covered several different areas of performance. AutoX , skid pad , braking , price and ride quality. | Ding..ding ...ding! We have a winner! Any of you guys looking to buy new tires should jump on these Hankooks.. For 684 dollars delivered these tires offer a smoking deal. They look great...they drive great.. Its the first day and they are a huge improvement over the rock hard year and a half old Goodyear Runflats I had on my C6. If you've got a c5 I'd recommend you look to see if they offer the sizing your cars require. Smokin deal these hankooks! JMO and good luck JB |

Their comparison is a little stupid I think though. Yeah, they got lower priced competitors tires against the PS2...but many of them aren't what I'd call comparable tires. I guess the article was to prove how close you can get to the PS2's summer tire performance without spending nearly as much. The PS2 is Michelin's stickiest summer street tire (short of the PS Cup tire). So of course the top of the range tire is going to be expensive. And yes Michelin is kind of a pricey brand to begin with, so no matter what, they will be the most expensive in this segment except for maybe the Pirelli PZero. So anyways. For example, they pit the Bridgestone RE760 against the PS2. OK, the 760 is a decent tire, but it certainly isn't Bridgestone's stickiest tire. Not even close. I mean, yeah it's got what I'd call pretty good grip, but they certainly have stickier tires available. The RE050A and the new RE11 are much more comparable to that Michelin. The Yokohama S-Drive is ok, but the Advan Sport is much stickier and much more comparable to the PS2. Why didn't they use those tires? Of course, the price goes up with those comparable tires. And that negates the purpose of their whole article. Now if you went and got a tire that's not the absolute top of the line tire from any brand, yeah it's not going to cost as much. Even in Michelin. It'll be a harder compound, and will wear longer. But at the cost of ultimate performance, which is why they still think the PS2 is the best summer tire. And yeah, a lot of these second tier tires they tested did in fact beat the mighty PS2 in the various tests. I can only imagine how much better the Potenza RE050A or the RE11 could do than the RE760 they used. Or how about a new Goodyear Eagle F1 asymetric. All of which are still a little cheaper that the PS2. Oh well. Perhaps I'm a bit biased, since I work for a major tire retailer now. I would have liked to see the top of the line tires all face off. It's kind of a big deal to set up a comparison test like that. I hardly ever get a customer who is interested in the very best for their car, like the PS2s, RE050As, Eagle F1s, or some other top of the line tire cross shop a tire like the Ling Long.

That is a smokin' deal for those Hankooks. I sell a set of those a week I'd say. Not a brand we typically sell, so those are from people who specifically request them. But you would have felt a big improvement in ride and handling almost no matter what getting rid of those runflats. Those super stiff sidewalls of the factory runflats are great for running with no air pressure, but at the expense of harder ride, more noise, and some hadnling. Not to mention, that the runflat tires add weight to the worst possible place you can have weight on the car.
