Hi there, This is correct, I was fired. Truth is, I snapped and said things I should not have said. Myself, I was made promises by the dealership that I would have 2 lifts, that I could make 45-60 hours per week and that I would be able to serve effectively. Instead, I was put in a corner, told to fix cars that others could not or WOULD NOT fix for the 2/3/4 time and I was buried. It was so bad, I had to establish MY OWN internet connection and router because they wouldnt. My thoughts on personal responsibility for my own actions, I made a mistake and they had to fire me. It was a professional decision and I respect them for it. My opinion, I was not given what was promised and after week after week of moving around people blocking me in, warranty after warranty after comebacks from other techs, I got fed up and snapped. I felt I was held to higher standards but others were NOT!!!! It is for the best. I am unemployed and am looking. Allthebest, c4c5 |

Dude, Well, at least you can admit you made a mistake, but truth is that its their loss. Before you got there, they had the worse reputation for overcharging Corvette customers and I thought you would change their reputation. ITS THEIR LOSS. I have had you work on my car for 5 years, and I have talked to many of your customers, even when you were at Perkins, and NOONE had a bad thing to say about your work. Thats why I came to you and was willing to go to a place I swore to stay away from. Everyone knows your cranky when you get stressed but your focus when fixing cars is legendary. If they cant get past it, then F*** them. I will wait till you get another job, because YOU WILL. Keep the faith dude.

Damn Paul, that place was a raw deal from the way you describe it. Sounds like you were flat rate there. Yet you were doing comebacks from other techs? And all us techs know that on flat rate, a comeback means you're working for free. That's pretty much what I do now, but I'm paid straight hourly plus a percentage of the store sales, so it's worth my while. But if you were flat rate...ugh. So someone else got paid to do it (wrong) the first time, and then you had to clean up their mess for free? Even if you "B Claim" the job because of a bad part, you still only get warranty book time. And in a flat rate shop, when all you get is warranty work that nobody else can do...you drown. All the gravy work somehow goes to the people that "don't know how" to do the hard stuff, so they flourish for knowing less. When I was at Cadillac, myself and the two other drivability techs (one of which was the foreman) used to say to eachother, "skill only hurts you here." I shoulda just told them I only know how to do 30k services and PDIs! Hope you find a better shop that recognizes the fact that you are a very elite technician and treats you that way. Sad to say that it may not be a dealer. I do miss being around fancy new cars, having access to all the special tools I need for the cars I work on, unending training for the latest technologies, and a dealership's almost limitless budget when it comes to shop supplies (body clips, brakleen, mops, you name it). But the way things are now with the new car business, even if I found a dealer with an open position I'm not sure how long it would last. |

Definitely their loss. I wish you the best of good fortune in finding a stable position with a dealership that appreciates the outstanding quality of your work, and is intelligent enough to realize that it will translate into customer loyalty and sales. Ever think of moving to Canada? We have a local dealer that could really use your skill - they tout themselves as 'Canada's premier Corvette dealership'. I took my C5 in for a simple oil pan gasket change due to a leak - warranty - and a few kilometres later the right front shock started banging around. The bolts fell out. I found other bolts loose and nothing was torqued to spec. I had them order the parts and I replaced and torqued them.

Man wish I could fix this. But, I don't think u need anyone to fix it. I think you'll be ok. Just hang on. If you had your own business and were near by I would certainly throw work your way.
