Question Service Engine Soon Light

I have a 1987 vette coupe with a L98 engine and automatic tranny with a little over 51,000 miles. The Service Engine Light stays on. I notice that the engine surges from low to high rpm at idle. The temp gague reads 189 at its highest. What is wrong and what should normal operating temp be at idle? Thanks for any help!

HI there,
Please give us any codes, but the first thing Iwould be looking at is 12 volt supply to the MAF sensor.
Double check your injector resistance at 16.5 ohms.
Allthebest, c4c5
