Have not had a any problems with my 05 Vette until today when I got an Engine Light after driving a just a few miles....stopped and checked the gas cap and it was loose, however, I could not tighten it down...after I got home I worked with cap and got the click/spring to work correctly and tighten down the cap (not sure if it will stay fixed). Took the car back out for a test ride and the light did not reset with cap on tight. My question is: if the loose gas cap was the reason for the engine light, once fixed should it automatically reset or do I have to go to the dealer to reset? Also was there a recall on the fuel cap and is the gas cap still covered under the extended EPA warranty.

Putting the cap on will not automatically reset the code. The EVAP system, which the gas cap is part of, has to go through its cycle in order to check the system for leaks. If none are found, it will turn the light off at that point. You cannot pull codes from a C6 unless you have a scanner too, so if it were the gas cap indeed, it should go out the next time the EVAP system completes its cycle/check. I am not certain, but you probably could remove the neg battery cable, leave if off for a few minutes, and that may clear the code.

HI there, Your gas cap would be covered under a 3 yr,36000 mile warranty, nothing more. ONLY the PCM and catalysts are covered by 8yr/80000 mile warranty. As for your cap, they are cheap plastic and break frequently. The ACDelco part number is 12F58 and is about $10 Allthebest, c4c5 |
