My 86 Corvette motor that the top end was taken apart 20 years ago with 19k miles has been recently reassembled and now has original 20k miles. I am trying to work out the bugs. A performance cam was installed prior to assembly. The computer registers knock sensor code 43, and the plastic conduit melted probably form heat. I replaced the sensor with no improvement. It seems like the car hesitates because the knock sensor is retarding the timing, but I'm not sure. Perhaps it's a voltage problem. Currently, the diodes in the alternator are burning out at what seems to be the same the motor hesitates. I believe that an excessive voltage loss is occurring causing the diodes to fry. This happened after I replaced the know sensor. Up until then it just hesitated and it threw a code 43. What could be causing this problem? I understand that because of this performance cam and ported intake and over sized risers that I am running a bit lean and have a lot of heat. The fuel pressure has been adjusted up to I believe 45-50 lbs. At one point I had the distributor adjusted wrong and the exhaust manifold got red-hot. | ||||||||||||||||||||

HI there, You need to start with the basics. Check every single power and ground source as indicated in the factory service manual. Torque your battery terminals to 11 ft lbs. That is your FIRST COURSE OF ACTION> Allthebest, c4c5 |
