CM frequent starting problem

1992 Base Model P code.

About half the time I get in the car, it will start right up. The other of time, it will fire, then cut off. If I try to restart immedaitely, it will not even fire....just turn over. Then I will let it sit, turn the key on, wait a second or two, then it will at least fire and die....others it start right up and stay running. I checked the fuel and the time it only went to 25 PSI, then recycling the key, it went to a bit over 45 PSI. When running, it stays around 38 PSI. I have an H54 code that shows up, in addition to a check engine light, "sys" flashing, and the security light flashing 3 times.

Anybody got any advice on where to start? I am getting frustrated.

Hi there,
Start with the basics, your fuel pressure is too low.
Immediately upon key up, you should be at 45-50psi.
Check your fuel filter and then, check your fuel pump.
Allthebest, c4c5

I replaced the fuel filter with no results. I am thinking that it is the fuel pump but in my experiences, they either work...or they don't. The 25 PSI reading was only read twice thru about a dozen tests. Have you seen this before? The other road I was looking at was the ECM or the fuel enable (or a combination of them both). Any tips you can give for a starting point other than what I described above is greatly appreciated.

Electric fuel pumps can and most of the time do get weak before failing.Check the presure at the line giong into the fuel filter..if its less than 45 psi first look for a blockage.Secondly, check that the vent line from the tank to the purge canister is open and venting correctly and not causing a weak fuel delivery. If thats all good then replace the pump.

Years of over-filling saturated my vapor canister. Easy, but expensive repair.
