CM C5 trans service help please?

Hello everyone. I have a 2001 C5 coupe, and am interested in changing the tranny filter and fluid. I hope I'm not beating a dead horse here, but. How much fluid will I need? (no flush),What fluid is suggested? What is the esiest way to install the fluid if done by quart? Any other tips, tricks, or secrets to accomplish this task would be appreciated. Thank You in advance for your help.

get a large drain pan !
for refilling you will need a pump

others will chime in with the links for the correct way to do it

Haha, When I was a professional mechanic in the shop we had a trash can lid brazed onto a drain pan w/ a valve. The lid had numerous holes for fluids to drain. The pump is a great idea. Thanks for the tips. Respectfully, Mark

recommended fluid would be dexron 6. dont know the exact capacity. just fill until it runs out the fill hole. just like on a differential or a transfer case. they took all the guesswork out of it.

Will Dextron 6 mix with Dextron 3? I'm not sure if the tranny has ever been serviced. Bought her used at a Chevy dealership. I've heard that 3 and 6 are incompatible.

Yes, they will mix. I believe you heard wrong. The only place I know that you shoudn't use Dex 6 in place of Dex 3 is in the 6 spd manuals.

Mark.
