CM Power steering is gone...

My 1984 has lost her power steering...how can I tell if it's the power steering pump or the rack that is shot? I don't have the pressure testing gages or vacuum hose gages.. Can I just simply unscrew a hose and see if there is any pressure at each of the potential problem areas?

HI there,
First, check if the pump is full of fluid.

Second, note any abnormal noises.

Third, look inside the PS pump when running and see if the foaming of the fluid is evident.

Please keep us posted, c4c5

The fluid level is full, and there are no strange noises...but I havn't looked for foaming fluid in the resevoir. I've put the car away for the winter, but that will be my first project when I get her back home in the spring.
Thanks for the suggestions,
Vic
