What are the differences between these 3 automatic transmission fluids for the 2005 Corvette with A-4 transmission that originally used the now discontinued by GM Dexron 3(H) that GM has given up licensing on and now endorses the Dexron 6 auto transmission fluid? Will I notice any differences in the shifting of automatic transmission or will one fluid last longer than the other fluid? If so which one is the best to use of them all?

HI there, GM engineered the Dexron 6 themselves and worked on the fluid for over 6 years before releasing it. DEXRON-VI significantly improved fluid viscosity, shift performance and fluid durability during aggressive driving. GM tests have demonstrated that DEXRON-VI delivers more than twice the durability and stability in friction tests compared to existing fluids. DEXRON-VI has also shown superior performance in pitting, foaming, oxidation and shear stability tests. You can view the information on the Dexron 6 in the bulletins section. This forum will not be a basis to endorse other lubricants under any circumstances. We are not lubricant experts. Dexron 3 licensing was revoked and the new Dexron VI was introduced. DEXRON III is still used/recommended for the MM6 tranmission.

Hi there, That is incorrect. The is NO LEGAL DEXRON 3. 88861800 is what is to be used in MM6MZ6 transmissions. Allthebest, c4c5 |

Hi there, Reference TSB for this. 04.07.30.037D, which notes: The content of this bulletin does not apply to manual transmissions or transfer cases. Any vehicle that previously required DEXRONŽ-III for a manual transmission or transfer case should now use P/N 88861800. Yes, you have a sticker, but that was BEFORE the introduction of Dexron VI. As changes are made in fluids, so are the TSB that compliment them with details of why the changes. Allthebest, c4c5 |

[QUOTE=c4c5specialist;22933]Hi there, Reference TSB for this. 04.07.30.037D, which notes: The content of this bulletin does not apply to manual transmissions or transfer cases. As changes are made in fluids, so are the TSB that compliment them with details of why the changes. This is for an A-4 2005 Corvette. So to clarify this then it would still be better to use the current DEX 6 which is thinner even though I can still get Dex III (h) which is thicker from other sources? ![]() Also in my manual it says that as far as the auto trans and rear end differential goes you need not change it if there is no leaks. Leave it alone? Does "If it ain't broke don't fix it" applies here?Nothing lasts forever. What intervals would you recommend on changing and maintenance on these two components?
