CM Availability of Tapered Seat Nuts- 04 Top Post Battery Cable Clamp

I have an 04 Convertible with 2000 miles and when I replaced the original battery recently I discovered the battery cable clamps nuts had some damage I would like to fix. The 04 Corvette changed back to a top post style battery and the clamps have special nuts with a cone shaped taper underneath that engages a slot in the clamp which draws it tight. The nuts are apparently fairly soft as the tapered bottoms on mine has wear grooves in them now possibly from overtightening. Attempting to tighten the nut just bottoms it out on the groove preventing drawing the clamp tighter. The parts department says the nuts are available only with a new battery harness. Anybody know if just the nuts are available separately somewhere?

Hi there,

From every diagram I saw, they are not available separately.

Usually damage is due to overtorque or incorrect tools being used.

Thanks for the reply. I agree but I did buy the car new and no one has ever touched those nuts until now when I removed them to replace the battery. A possible problem as I see it is practical experience seems to suggest given enough time mixed with some inattention to the battery you could be seeing some corroded nuts that will need replacing except you will have to replace the entire cable at considerable expense to do it.

It's easy enough to replace the cable end w/o changing the cable.
