No. Pull the proper connector! It disconnects the the electronic advance. It's the tan single wire with a black stripe. Look at the wire loom near the right side of brake booster, between booster and engine. You will see a connector that comes out of the wire loom. A must for proper timing adjustment. I just read an update from GM that said; adjust base timing at 2 degrees BTDC. Warm up the engine before adjusting, I recomend you make sure of the proper base timing for your model before you do the job. Also when the timing light is on and flashing (with advance disconnected),make sure the timing marks don't jump around, thats a sure sign of worn out timing chain and gears. After adjusting timing, disconnect the negative battery terminal for 5 minutes to clear the check engine light. Let us know..

My connector is buried behind the distriburor. That is why I hoped I could disconect the wires from the esc module. It has the original plug wires and I assume the distributor has never been touched. I have no missfire or spark leak on the wires and hate to dismantle. Was hoping I could check with out too much trouble. I should be at a 6* advance. Ken

No pinging just curious as to what it is set at. I always run 93 octane. I did cuss when I saw the connector buried behind the distrubitor. Just thought if the wires from the conector went to the module it wouldn't matter where they were disconected. However if there were different wires then the cusing starts again. thanks Ken Ken

Well it is 1* after tdc. Now this creates another difficult problem. How the devil do you get a wrench on the bolt? Do I need to buy a special wrench? Good thing I love this car.

| Go to your local parts house and buy 9/16 distriutor wrench. They ahave a 90 degree bend that makes getting to it easy.
