CM 1966 Corvette-327-Carburetor Question.

Hi All,
Have a carb base lug cracked/broken and am looking for a used base or old rebuildable unit.
The carb in question is #3890499 - list 3605 holley and has a large cast port for the GULP valve connection on the base.

I feel a replacement part is the way to go, instead of trying to weld the lug back on. any suggestions welcome here.

TIA. Romain.

If the car is a driver, I'd probably try JB Weld first. The stuff works really well.

If it's a show car, then you can try some of the Corvette salvage yards or even a regular one to see if they have the part.

You might also want to see if Holly sells the part separately.

Hi Bruce, we will contact Holley and see what comes up, this is a California only, with the AIR ( air injector reactor ) and GULP valve arrangement.the car is in very nice condition, but will be a driver to and fro show/shine events.

Thank you motorman for your reply,

That is of course an alternative, and since there are some nylon type of bushings supporting the shafts, they will have to be removed, and hopefully there will be no distortion of the shaft bores.

if things don't work out we are back at square one.

Will have to make some inquiries in my locale, and take it from there.

just remove the shafts and bolt the base to a steel plate after filing a "V" in the crack area and weld the top side and then flip it over and weld the bottom. i never had a problem with warpage. the bushings are teflon so the will take a lot of heat as frying pans and irons are coated with teflon. also not all holley carb bases have the teflon bushings

That appears to be a sound approach to this problem, will discuss this with the owner.

"Nylon" was my guess for the bushing material, thanks for the correction.
