CM 1987 A/C clutch not engaging

Turned my A/c on today, blower works fine the clutch won't engage. I checked the fuse in the block an it's good. I also re-seated the plug on top of the compressor still nothing. Can you help?? It's the electronic climate control and no blinking light indicating any codes as well.

HI there,

With the engine off, wipe your finger across the front of the AC compressor clutch. Is it oily???

If so, your AC is low on freon and needs to be retrofitted and charged correctly with R134A.

Allthebest, c4c5

The front is dry and the system was retrofitted with r34 in November. The kit was installed and a new dryer was used. I just pulled the low pressure line switch off and checked for power and no power. But with the test probe in the switch the clutch engaged??? What does this mean??

Low on freon or bad switch. Probably low freon. A small leak could exlain this. If it is low, buy a can of r134a with the uv dye in it and top the system off. Drive it a few days with a/c on and check for traces of dye at all connections with a UV light. Also check compressor clutch area and front side of condenser for leaks. hope this helps...

The system was empty. My local shop filled it and added the dye. I wonder why the dealership didn't realize ther was a leak in November when the filled it??
