CM Headlight motors

When my headlights are on, my driver's side motor makes a very loud ticking.

Any ideas? minor annoyance or important repair issue?

HI there,

Sounds like the internal circuit breaker isnt working, and coming down.

Check for voltage through the motor and if it spikes when the TICK occurs.

Otherwise, it may be a gear thats starting to strip.

Allthebest, c4c5

Thanks. Will do and report back. My money is on the gear. Kinda has that mechanical sound and I can feel the "thump" when the motor makes the notice. Lamp is often a little slower than the other to rise.

I am betting it's the delrin bushings that have been chewed up. Take a look at this link:

Thumbs up Headlight Bushing install

I agree, I replaced the bushing last year on my left light. It's about a two hours install from start to finish. nice weekend project. I have attached a PDF for the install.

To my knowledge, the bushing was not used in 1985. I'm thinking 1988 and on. Those motors are far better. That may be why.
