I have an '89 Coupe that's driving me nuts!!! It will start..run fine..but will not re-start. I'll make a couple of stops but when I try to start again, it won't fire. Plenty of cranking power but it will not fire. I replaced the fuel pump, which it needed, but no help. It is throwing no codes...has fire and proper fuel pressure. Let it sit for a while (no exact time) and it restarts. ![]() ![]() ![]() Any ideas? Thanks!!!

Hi, check the leak down rate of the injectors. If the're leaking down to fast, it could cause a flooding issue that would act like you describe. Let us know..

Hi there, First off, take a simple resistance test of your fuel injectors. Each injector should have 16.5 ohms resistance. Post your results here. Allthebest, c4c5 |

when trying to start, keep the throttle all the way to the floor, letting more air in. Then if it starts release the throttle immediately. This has helped with m7 89, which is also driving me nuts...

Hi there, Truthfully, you should NEVER have to push your gas pedal to start a fuel injected engine. Allthebest, c4c5 |

I would say if your going to do your own diagnostics, buy these 4 things to save time and hassle. 1- The gm service manual for your year---@ 60.00 or less (used) 2- Digital Multimeter----- Less than 20.00 3- Fuel presure tester-----Less than 30.00 4- Vacume pump/tester-----Less than 30.00 Prices quoted are for basic tools that are sold on ebay every day. No the're not Snap-On, but they will do the job. With average skills and abilatys, these 4 items will give you the most bang for your buck, when it comes to chasing down your problems.

Hi there, Lets be very clear. I DO NOT ASSUME> The function of a fuel injection engine is to start without any type of opening the throttle. 1,3,4 are very true, but #2 is critical. An accurate multimeter with 10 megaohm impedance is critical so it doesnt take electricity when you are testing. And if I really believed everyone had tools and ability, why would this website be here ? Allthebest, c4c5 |

Well even the best techs need training to learn new systems. And as mechanics we tend to take for granted certian things. I might not have a GM world class certification. But I do have 30 + years of training myself. Including but not limited to gm factory training. Opening the throttle while cranking isnt needed on fuel injection. But and with that being said, If doing so helps the car to start, its a clear sign of to much fuel or weak ignition or both. No matter what the control system or type of internal combustion engine...fuel or fire... fuel or fire! The function of a fuel injected engine is NOT to start without throttle application as you say. Fuel injection has been around since the late 30s. Its primary function and benifit is to more precisely distribute fuel. All the other benifits of fuel injection are secondary. As if billions of dollars were spent over 70+ years just to invent a way to keep you from pumping the pedal??? And buy the way, You assumed he even has a multimeter and knows how to use it. Don't let the "World Class Technician" go to your head. Let's be even more clear I thought this was a corvette lovers site. Its starting to feel like a gm training class that I did'nt sign up for. I guess those of us with out the tats or certifications are way to stupid to post or try to help people here.
