I'm replacing the motor mounts on my 94 6speed. I have the exhaust off and the cats off. I can't seem to get enough clearance to get the mounts out. I have a jack under the bell housing and it seems like the bell housing/trans has contacted the tunnel and I can't get any more room. Is there a trick to this. The heat shields are also a problem. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi there, Yes, you will have to remove the heat shields, but normally I do one side at a time and lift one corner using an engine hoist. That will give me enough room for one side, then the other. Allthebest, c4c5 |

Thanks C4C5Specialist! I used a bottle jack/wood spacer on the oil pan bolts and it gave me the clearance I needed for the passenger side. That side is back in. Can you help me with the driver side upper cat bracket bolt? How the heck do you get that off? I've tried a crows foot and swivel but no luck. It's very tight up in there. Argh!! Yeah, that one sucks bad. I used a 1/4 drive universal socket or a gear wrench flex head from the upper side once I remove the master cylinder. Allthebest, c4c5 |

I got it out and here's how I did it. I disconnected the C Beam and lowered the back of the engine so I could reach it with a 1/4" flex socket on a long extension. Yeah. It went back together much easier. Another question: Most of the silver coating fell of the motor mount insulators by moving them around. Will that be a problem? Thanks for the help! This is a great resource. I'll see you at Carlisle. Tbone | ||||||||||||||||||||

HI there, Normally, that silver coating helps reflect heat away from the mount area. I have not experienced any issues with the coating missing but thats just me. Allthebest, c4c5 |
