I have a 2007 C6 convertible with less that 20k on it. Last weekend when I was pulling into a parking lot the engine died along with all things electrical. Doors wouldn’t open there were no dome light no dash power nothing it was as if the battery and all things connected to it had been removed from the car while it was rolling into the parking place. I open the doors with emergence release and checked the fuses under the hood but was unable to find any blown. I placed the key fob in the boot slot in the glove box and the dash lit up for a second then dimmed then went off still all things electrical stayed dead. Even attempting to start the car during this short appearance of power was futile. . The car was towed to the local Chevy dealer where the service writer attempted to jump start the car with out any luck. Same as before not even with the external battery attached nothing would power up on the car. This was on Saturday afternoon; there was not a mechanic available to look at it till Monday morning and at that time it started right up. The service writer advised me that it had a short and it would take several hours to find it. He called back later and advised that they had checked the battery the starter and the charging system and found them to all be in good working order. He also advised that they had driven the car and had let it run for over and hour but weren’t able to replicate the problem. I ask him about relays or common grounds that could possibly cause such a catastrophic electrical failure. He said electrical problems were hard to diagnose. I picked up the car and told him I would drive it till it failed again and give him a call. I’ve driven it for several days without any problems. Any ideas on where to start? Also: The car battery is 2 month old and the battery in the fob is less than a year. Thanks for any help!

HI there, Your issue is most likely a communications issue with the control computers. There will be diagnostic control codes within the systems that could help in the diagnostics. What were those codes ????? There will be something in the system. Request the dealership to provide those and we can try to assist you. Allthebest, c4c5 |

HI there, A diagnostic check of the system will include all 25 control modules on your vehicle, including diagnostic communications. ECM runs the engine, it does NOT run the car. Every module must be checked. THERE WILL BE CODES, I can GUARANTEE IT! Allthebest, c4c5 |

I’ve exchanged several voice and emails with the service writer at the dealership but he doesn’t seem to want to answer the question about the diagnostic control codes. Hope I didn’t offend him. The diagnostic tool that reads the codes is this something that I can purchase? Maybe software and a cable I can plug into my laptop? Update! I think this answers my question. Ouch! http://www.westcoastcorvette.com/p-2...di-module.aspx

HI there, That is a Tech 2 FLASH and is NOT the same as that which we use in a dealership. The machine is the same, but the FLASH is the Vetronix/Bosch diagnostics version of an aftermarket scanner. It does NOT do all the things a GM Tech 2 does. And thats MORE expensive than what you pay if you bought direct from Vetronix/Bosch. And I would FIND ANOTHER DEALERSHIP. Allthebest, c4c5 |

HI there, You might be able to, but it really depends on the software version. And from what I know, you cannot get COMMUNICATIONS CODES. That may have changed since I have used one, which is about 3 years. Allthebest, c4c5 |

Instead of playing around with other code readers, you need to go to an OEM code reader and find out what your issues really are.

| It’s been a year since my last post and I have an update on my electrical problem. The car died on me again just as I described in my earlier post. This time it died in my garage. This gave me the opportunity to do some checking. There are two blue connectors that plug into the BCM, one vertical a one horizontal. I wiggled the vertical one and the car came back on. I unplugged the connector and inspected the pins, all were straight and appeared to be in their proper location (not pushed in or recessed or bent). I’m not 100% sure if the problem is with the connector or where the connector plugs into the BCM. I priced both parts (Blue connector that is part of the wiring harness the other part is the BCM) both are pricey options. The harness requires a lot of labor most of the interior has to be removed. The BCM require someone to have the Tech 2 tool and the knowledge to use it (that’s not happening in here in Dallas). So I have two pricey options without any absolutes. Re seating the cable really isn’t a long term option…but it has worked every time. C4C5 do you have suggestions on how to precede | ||||||||||||||||||||
