CM Leaking Fluid

Looked at the puddle of fluid (3" diameter) under my 06. Looks pink like auto trans fluid, but from under the engine. Car is a 6-spd manual. Hydaulic clutch fluid by chance?

Then I looked into where the slave cylinder was located and what was required when eventually I need to replace the clutch. Is that right that the rear suspension, differential, transmission, driveshaft, console, dash etc, etc all need to come out to get to the clutch? Seems like an incredible amount of effort...

Thanks in advance for the info!

HI there,

Depending on the location, the pink fluid could be Dexcool.

Sometimes, the dyes will change color, giving a perception of pink.

Yes, the entire driveline and rear subframe must be removed in order to do that clutch job.

In the case of ZO6/ZR1, the engine actually needs to be raised to remove the exhaust catalysts to get the clutch out.

Hydraulic clutch fluid should be transparant, but it could be dark (like coffee.) It won't be pink. You'd notice an empty reservoir if you were leaking that.

Ck your power steering fluid level & compare it's color to the leak. It's usually a red/pink color.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check the coolant and PS fluid levels!

Just out of curiosity, how much does GM usually charge to replace the clutch, given how much work it is?

HI there,

Alldata labor time guide gives 9.9 hours with a 6.0 engine
10.5 for a 7.0 engine.

Add .4 to replace the pilot bearing and flywheel and there is your cost at whatever your shops labor rate per hour is.

If you want an accurate "color" of the fluid, place a piece of copy/typing paper where the leak is.
