CM Oil Seepage

Noticing some oil seeping around the front drain plug on my 2008 Z06.
Changed the oil and put a new GM drain plug in still slight seepage. Any ideas? It is not stripped, it is just seeping slightly enough to be frustrating. Thank you

Are you sure it's not the oil pan gasket? I had a similar situation on my 07, after several oil changes and new drain plugs each time (I was sure it was the plug) I finally took it to the dealer. It was a leaking oil pan gasket in my case. This is a common C6 problem, there have been numerous reports of gasket leaks on various forums. It's been one oil change since and no leaks.

The dealer had to use oil dye to find the leak, so it wasn't that obvious where the leak was. Just so you know, it took two days to change the gasket (they wanted the gasket sealer to cure overnight), and the front front cradle has to be dropped. Thorobred in Chandler did the work on my car, just as an FYI.

Hi there,

What is seen more than the actual gaskets failing is the bolts being slightly loose and the oil seeping out of the oil bolt holes.

I cannot tell you how many I have gotten like that and a simple change of the bolts fixes it.

As mentioned, the oil dye test is the ONLY way to correctly diagnose this.

Thanks gentlemen. I have ordered a dye kit and will check for the origin. If it is the pan bolts being loose can I retorque them?

You can, as long as the sealant on the bolts is not gone.
