CM Steering Wheel Airbag Cover

Does anyone know if the steering wheel airbag cover is the same part that is found on an '08-'10 Chevy Cobalt steering wheel? They look identical from pictures.

I got some Loctite super glue residue on my '08 Vette drivers airbag cover and could not get it completey off, as well as the cleaning dulled the finish in some places. I can pick up a cover from a Cobalt off of Ebay at a reasonable price and want to make sure the part will fit and function the same.

Thanks - bob

HI there,

The airbag and cover are engineered together and is not something I would switch.

That cover actually guides the airbag restraint during deployment.

That is why they are NEVER sold separate from the inflator module itself.

The air bag module part numbers are different between the 2 and GM does not give cover applications so I cannot tell you for sure.

Allthebest, c4c5

bob i hope you were not gluing something on the air bag cover that could take out a eye if the air bag went off. i have seen people glue fancy inserts to the air bag cover. good seeing you again at the CCWP show

Hi Clem, No. I put on some GM matching carbon fiber pieces on the steering wheel spokes I picked up at Carlisle. They look great as they are identical to the pattern on the console.

Somehow before I intalled them, I got a small amount of Loctite super glue on the side of my right hand and when I leaned on the steering wheel cover while placing the pieces on the spokes a small amount got on the cover. I got it cleaned off with alcohol, but I was rubbing agressively and it dulled the finish in areas. Wife says she can't see it, but it is noticable to me. Lots of Meguiars gloss vinyl dressing hides it for now.

You guys might try a product called Back to Black or similar, it's usually for outside sun faded plastic (it does ALL colors - not a black dye)

Thanks froggy. I tried Back to Black which I use on the rear valance trim once a month. It's evaporates quickly on the wheel and the mottled appearance shows through. So far the best thing I've tried to hide the defects is baby oil. Looks great but only lasts a few days.
