What do you recommend for a good scan tool for my '89 vet?

Yeah--find an alternative. They're $2000--maybe $750 used. Snap-On is French for "the same product at 5x the price".

C4C5 Specialist has one I believe he said he paid $750 for new. Don't recall the make or model, but it's blue, if that helps.

The Snap on is a professional scan tool for professional technicians and is priced accordingly.

Snap On offers financing with weekly payments and prices accordingly.

I have yet to find their tools worth the premium and only buy them when no alternative exists. They're a status symbol.

I'll bet dollars to doughnuts Paul uses his more than any five people here combined would and I don't think his was a Snap-On.

I recently had a Snap on salesman test my 1/2 inch drive click type torque wrench. It tested right on. It was purchased I think in 1972.

There's no doubt--they make fine gear, but worth the price--always? Not so much. Now, competition is so much tougher than it once was. I see the Matco truck at the corner shop as much as Snap-On

I cherry pick what I buy from any of them like I do most anything. A Craftsman ball peen is just as good as a Gucci ball peen...

I save my money so I can spend the extra dough when it really counts. Matching sets don't matter so much to me.

I got a Sears catalog in the mail Saturday. It had two scanners that claim to read both OBD I & II. They're $199 and $299.

I'm going to take a look. Sears is pretty hip about returns if something doesn't perform as expected, so why not investigate?
