Can anyone confirm that there is a different higher pressure oil filter for the newest latest dry sump system? From what I can glean GM upped the quantity and pressure of the latest system. 2009? Never mind, it's yes. Is there a new filter also? Never mind. Got it UPF48R. Will UPF48R fit LS6?????? I am getting seepage after events using the specified PF46e filter. Is anyone seeing seepage with the PF46e on cars that see high performance use? That's probably one out of 25 to 50 Vettes that are serviced maybe less. I'm sure they don't leak when grandpa drives to the golf course. I NEVER had seepage with the PF46. It's correctly tight & no I didn't leave an extra gasket. It "could" be the sensor & I will ck that next OC. The cynic in me is thinking that GM bowed down to the enviromentals (this is the environmental friendlier filter that can be deconstructed & recycled) once again (think lower zddp) and sold out the enthusiast. But I will hold the jury out on that for now. Would just like to get some real field data on the new filter when used in high performance environment. I have read on a couple of other forums that the "e" filter is not up to high performance & I don't want to fail my engine so GM can win a environmental award. I am not putting another one on. Should I go back to PF46 or will UPF48R fit? Another better one, napa-wix? Thanks

| My local dealer is out of pf46 & does not expect any more as GM has gone green filters. I had my lube guy Jose (nice guy) look thru his drawer & another lube guys drawer for some NOS pf46 but neither had any. I am going with NAPA Gold unless some one has a better idea. Reasonable price & built solid & very good flow/filter properties. I would really watch these pf46e filters, you guys who do a lot of service of if you don't do lube, ask your co worker who does do them. Based on my experience they don't seal on an ls6 that sees high revs (which is not all of them). I am sure most of them seal just great, but I am only talking about using the motor at it's design limits. Not putt-putting around. Sustained high rpm track day for example. I know some guys will safety wire them (and many other parts). Oil on a track is no fun. Maybe I can pick up a case on Amazon or ebay. Both my LS motors use them. Thanks. | ||||||||||||||||||||

I'm still trying to extrapolate the environmentalists "selling out" the enthusiasts via an oil filter...

15,000 oil change intervals on BMW (I know the oil is better but 15,000 miles?). Fewer OC is "greener" for the environment. Less ZDDP in oil to make the catalytic converter last longer & sacrifice engine bearing wear. Oil filter that can be more easily recycled, but leaks (my current post) Tires with longer tread life but lower grip. Advertised as environmental friendly tires. Taking the copper out of brake pads, because it finds it's way to the ocean. New Calif. law coming. The big manufacturers bend to the will of environmentalists & then market the changes to the parts as "improvements" and "good for the planet" Don't get me wrong, I am all for clean air/water/less waste & have been so before it became "popular" like "Earth Day" celebrations. Celebraties & politicians fly is on jumbo jets with an entourage to have some meeting on how the planet is burning up/polar bears are dying/and some snail is going extinct. All the while polluting hundreds of times more than you or me. Ref: Al Gores fleet of cars & energy bills on his houses. http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/Globa...2906888&page=1 There is so much hypocrisy regarding all these spokespeople for the planet it should make rational people think twice about what they are "selling". I just wish the FULL FACTS on what the automotive manufacturers are changing were made available instead of just p/r releases. So a consumer & enthusiast can make an educated choice. That's what I was referring to, not sure if I wasn't clear on that, maybe this expansion will help. Mostly I try to keep the political bs out of posts & stick to factual car stuff, but this "new improved" oil filter got me going. Some will chose to not make the connection, that's fine, no biggie. :)

"green." It seems to me that oil filters should be sturdy enough to hold any pressure any engine can develope. (Years ago, VW had some filter failures, but the pressure spike was > 700PSI.) Anyway, thanks for the clarification. You forgot the biggest example of hypocrasy *(even bigger the AlGore!) The Toyota Prius!

Sorry, A "green" oil filter is one that can be more completely recycled at the end of it's life instead of ending up in a land fill. That's a fine goal, but the filter has to do at least as good a job under high performance conditions as the one it's replacing. How long do you figure it'll be before there is an environmental recycling charge when you buy a filter or oil. There's one on tires in California for years (disposal fee). Got one on many electronic devices too. Bottles/cans need I go on. It's like a disease the way it is spread by politicians / bueracrats. :)
